The North Side Canal Company is one of the largest mutual irrigation companies in Idaho. The company diverts water from the north side of the Snake River at Milner Dam, near Twin Falls, Idaho. The Company serves some 165,000 acres of farmland along an 80-mile stretch of the River. The North Side Canal Company, and its sister organization, the Twin Falls Canal Company, have been leaders in the irrigation enterprise business community for many years. They struggled in the early years, until American Falls Reservoir was completed in the late 1920s with the assistance of the Bureau of Reclamation. They are now two of the most successful and innovative irrigation enterprises in the intermountain region.
For more than 25 years, the North Side Canal Company has taken a pro-active role in improving water quality on the Snake River, particularly in the area known as the Magic Valley. This reach of the Snake River, just west of the Kimberly area, is clearly one of the river's most scenic stretches. Needless to say, this particular reach of the river, although by now a deep and spectacular gorge, passes through one of the most important agricultural producing areas in the West.
